Based on a combination of long-term working practices andacademic theories in Animation Art, this dissertation aims to gain a deeperunderstanding about the time-and-space model for Animation Art through analysisof animation works and animation form as art. The technique of filming and thepersistence theory help distinguish animation from live action movie and painting,and this gives animation a rise to special time-and-space aspects in terms of artenvironment. Thus, animation rises from technical realization to art creation, and itis also a step which leads to a difference between art movie and commercial movie.The social aspects of animation create new social time-and-space conception forthis industry. Later on, animation techniques become universal, adapting andmerging themselves with characters and features from various ethnics and cultures.Therefore, it enriches the contents of its time-and-space aspects, including art andsociety. Furthermore, the globalization has compressed both sides of animation’stime-and-space aspects, contributing to the start of the modern version ofanimation’s time-and-space aspects. Meanwhile, the compression also comes fromanimation itself, and this makes animation works stand out more in terms of its artand social characters. As a conclusion of the analysis above, evaluations of anyanimation work or animation school require analysis and consideration from arttime-and-space and social time-and-space features, both parts of Animation Art. Inone word, the research of animation works needs to depend on the research oftime-and-space environment of Animation Art.A study in the process of animation’s time-and-space gives access to itscompositions. The art time-and-space consists of time motion of animation (thetime motion of shots and the time motion of human action), painting presentation(screen space’s formation and digital screen space) and role shaping. The socialtime-and-space is made up of themes of works, backgrounds of times, social spaceand technical realization. Hence, the combination of both visual and acoustictheories in animation aesthetics and animation creations helps animation aestheticsstay practical and accessible. Moreover, an objective understanding of rise and current condition ofChinese animation is necessary when it comes to a better understanding of Chineseanimation schools. This is base for future development of Chinese animationaesthetics. On one hand, the art time-and-space of Chinese animation lies in thecombination of movie techniques and Chinese traditional arts and painting.Therefore, understandings of Chinese cultural artistic beauty and getting the virtualbeauty beyond the themes are the keys to Chinese animation aesthetics. In themeantime, it is always vital to take the social influences into considerations. Forinstance, commercialization is a feature of current animation industry. Therefore,the development of modern animation needs to match the social trends, culturalchanges and social values. Only in this way, innovative animation works wouldhave its competences in its industry worldwide.
