Since Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland had been published in1865and Through the Looking Glass in1872, the two famous Alice’s fantastic works had been regarded as the masterpiece of Lewis Carroll, they had been focused on from generation to generation, and bring great happiness to children and wisdom to adults. The two books had been translated in at least125languages and more than100versions in the past years, and there are also lots of adaption of dramas, cartoons and movies based on the figures, animals, monsters or plots of the literature works. In2010, the3D film Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was adapted and directed by Tim Burton, it made a successful hit, due to both Disney’s and director’s style, the film won a great box in North American. This thesis mainly focuses on the literature and the adaption of Burton’s film, answers the questions why a children literature book can republish so many times and the adapted movie can make such success. The first chapter analyses Carroll’s works in detail, and discusses its different way of narrative modes. Carroll depicted the wonderland in an absurd way, that many readers can’t gain the main theme, figures and plots as they predicted, and Carroll criticized the custom, religious, education and executive power in Victorian Period ironically. The second chapter mainly discusses the film which kept the essence of the fairy tale in one hand, in another, the director added more modern elements in the film, and the figures, plots and theme had been innovated bravely. In both real life and wonderland, Alice grew up through the experience and woke up by her feminist consciousness.Based on the former analysis, the third chapter discusses the Disney’s and Burton’s style, which deeply influenced the literature adapt to film. Above all, from a series of analysis, the thesis will conclude that which factors will successfully influence the adaption.
