In the early19th century, a huge independence movement broke out in the LatinAmerica, in the Spanish rule in the Americas, the colonists through armed struggle toestablish a bourgeois republic, and in the Portuguese colony of Brazil, was characterized bythe feudal monarchy of Brazilian empire.Brazilian empire (1822-1889) is the key period in transformation from a traditionalsociety to modern society. This period, although it has certain development of capitalisteconomy, but not completely get rid of the colonial economic nature, obviously dependentcharacteristics, western market demand for coffee growing and processing to become thepillar of the national economy. Single economic structure that Brazil is subject to theinternational market, a disguised form leads to loss of economic sovereignty. At the sametime with the massive influx of immigrants from Europe, the middle class is growing, theimpact on the original social structure. These changes led to a republican movement withinthe territory of the Brazilian empire, Brazil’s imperial crisis. Paraguayan war, increasedmilitary force political status, and to provide them with a political opportunity for the riseand the Brazilian empire ruling foundation is loose, eventually lead to the end of the empire.Through in-depth analysis of the cause of the Brazilian empire end, can reveal theimperial system replaced by the first republic of necessity, as well as Brazil’s generality andparticularity of the process of modernization, not only for the study of the history of Brazil,can also be helpful to the modernization theory building cases.
