The Research Of Liu Deren’s Poetry

Liu Deren,a poet during late Tang dynasty, lived in Tong Ji Li in Chang An.Accordingto research,he was born in807-809and died in857-859,which was during the period ofYuan He and Da Zhong. His father was Liu Shijing,the son of Jing Yuan Jie Du Shi LiuChang.His mother was Yun An Princess,the daughter of Tang Shun Zong.He was fromnobility,but he gave up the title and honor.He chose the way of imperial examination to earna fame.He wondered in examination hall for almost30years,however, he accomplishednothing and regretted eventually.The reason includes two sides:one is his character ofloneness and alienation from his family,the other is the unrest and decay political societyand unfair examination.In order that, he always failed, and lived in landscape writing poetrywith friends which had140to pour out his life.Liu Deren’s poetry were more related to his own life and little wrote the society.Amongthe subjects,hermit poetry are largest,which reflect in his contradictory mentality and bitterheart.Others contain farewell poetry which are full of sincere friendship,offering poetrywhich have deep scholar feelings and simple words,memory poetry which include sorrowand happy and recite night more,meditation which describe the Jing and Kong.Theexperience of failure and loneness made his poetry form the elegance clear and bitterassiduous feature,mainly in the method of Ku Yin and reciting of the bitter.He also describedthe imagery of pine,bamboo,ape and crane to symbolize his pure character and bitter life.Healso used verbs skillfully,especially the succession of many verbs,to increase the dynamicstate and rhythm.As the descendant of the nobility,he didn’t rely on his family and he was glad to bepoor.And then Wei Zhuang and Qi Bai wrote poetry of mourning for his character like iceand snow in nobility. As a poet,his poetry were famous,especially five-words,and werepraised heavily.The later critics tasted his poetry and recorded in their books.His poetry leftmore wealth and had important significance to literature research of late Tang dynasty.
