A Research About The Image Of The Journalist In The Western Movies

The journalism has been developing for centuries. The image of the "UncrownedKing" of the journalist obtains the widespread concern of the public, and the study ofjournalist’s image has a long history. This article will break through the orientationthat the image of the journalist was acted as the footnote in the journalism and mediarestrictions of the press and television. Having chosen the perspective of the film andselected hundreds of famous “Journalist’s Films” in the history, the article reassesseshow the film which has the dual role of mess media and artworks expresses onmoulding the image of the journalist. Based on the critical perspective of newhistoricism, and combining narrative theory of the film with representation theory,along with feminist, the article takes116images of journalists showed in107films asobject of the study. The reappearing process of the images of media and journalists inthe film can be considered as the non-contextualized interpretation and construction ofrealistic elements, which add the position and attitude of filmmakers, and mix thepossible accepted intention of the audience that is under the effect of mass ideology.In the films, the manifestation of female and black journalists is deeply affected bystereotype and racism.By using the method of content analysis, this article encodes and takes thereappearance of journalists’ images in sample films into statistics, and categorizestheir images according to the type, action, gender, race, whether anomie and havingthe wisdom of investigation. Choosing the specific films of journalist’s absence asexceptions, this article will analyze the manifestation of the media image and thenarrative pattern with data in the films. Meanwhile, the article will do some researchon what social realities and expectations are reflected while the films are moulding thetendentious of journalist’s image, and what ideology affects and influences the meansof which news events are adapted into films. Through the films, the author hope tounderstand better on how journalist’s image and the society appeal to the journalism.
