Affected by geographic conditions and natural environment, dogs in Tibetan dailylife and even the entire national history played an irreplaceable role in the developmentprocess. Tibetans like the dog and respect for the dog, look the dog as one of the mostimportant members of the home, the story about the dog is also widespread in Tibetanfolk, and many peculiar folk customs exist in Tibetan daily life. Because of this, theancient Tang dynasty and Turks called "Tubo and the dogs are similar", people alsothink that Tibetan people regard dog as their national totem. But what is the truth?Related in this paper, the folklore research methods combines theory and historicalliterature, discusses in Tibetan life status.According to the theory of folklore and totem culture, totem worship and primitiveworship of animals and plants have a fundamental difference, thinking there is a dogtotem worship in Tibetan customs mainly confused totem worship and primitiveworship of animals and plants. Totem worship is the original product, combining theanimal and plant worship and ancestor worship of the totem group consciousness, totemis very sacred. Will totem totem group as their ancestors, relatives, patron saint. Totemtaboo is one of the very important elements of the totem worship, basically havebehavior taboos, verbal taboo, and diet taboos. But we see that the dog Tibetan culturehas quite part of breaking the taboo, even the hero will be killed by dogs, and that totemidea deviating. And tibetans in their words and actions show the dog from time to timebase, which goes against the totem culture. So the dog is not Tibetan national totem.Popular Tibetan dog totem talk has its inherent reasons: first, in the history of Tangdynasty and the turks took a dog with dogs as the totem of Dijon relates together, thefamily "tubo breed"; Second, the Tang dynasty and the turks looks down opon tubo;Again, it is for some dog cultural misreading phenomenon; Finally, is to the Tibetancustoms a misunderstanding that don’t eat dog.About dog theft seeds or save seeds in the folk stories in Tibetan and Tibetanfuneral instrument with the custom of resin to feed dogs and so on also has nothing todo with dogs totem worship, it is rise with the rise of Buddhism.Dog totem worship is widespread in the southern part of the ethnic minorities in China, kalama people widely acknowledged for their ancestors, and various modes ofworship of the dog; Tibetan tribal totem-yak totem worship also left a matching sourcemyth, and the worship of the Tibetan people, dogs, and these have a fundamentaldifference between them.Among Tibetans in ancient times there’s no dog totem worship custom, somesimilar dog also has nothing to do with the worship of totem culture phenomenon, or theoriginal worship of animals legacy, or related to myths and legends, or related to itsreligion. Tibetans love and respect dogs dog, this is the common phenomenon ofnomadic people in the world. We can only say that tibetans have primitive worship oflegacy, but cannot say that tibetans have custom dog totem worship.
