The ultimate aim of a foreigner learning Chinese is to improve the ability tocommunicate using Chinese. Audio-visual material like TV drama besides reenactingrealistic human interactions also contains cultural information. Therefore, this authoropines that using audio-visual material to teach is more advantageous than usingtraditional written material, especially during the Chinese class. Using audio-visualmaterial can provide a realistic language environment to the students, improvecommunication skills effectively, and provide the students with a better understandingof Chinese culture.Basing on previous studies, combing with the Chinese class, this paper furtherexplore the theoretical and practical implications of teaching using audio-visualmaterial. This paper also contains a teaching plan based on the cartoon<mulan>. Thispaper believes that fully utilizing audio-visual material in teaching can motivate thestudents to learn Chinese in a realistic language environment, and therefore improvetheir language proficiency. |
