For a singer, her crude and rough voice is not enough to perform a piece of song. A good singer should control every musical note as far as possible to make it more flexible. For that reason, the usual singing training shows great importance that standard and systematic etude training can facilitate the vocal music learning very well. Therefore, taking FRANZ ABT Practical Singing as the object of the study, the present thesis gives a brief introduction about the development and history of the etude to the overseas and domestic research status. Meanwhile, it describes the content characteristics of FRANZ ABT Practical Singing and its function in the vocal music learning. The author will focus on melody, rhythm, form and expression of emotion of some pieces of characteristic etudes combining her own experience. Then she elaborates the far-reaching significance of FRANZ ABT Practical Singing to vocal music learning from six aspects.
