A Study Of Recruitment Campus Poster

Posters can be seen everywhere in campus nowadays and they play a major role inundergraduates’ daily life. Though as a common phenomenon, the research of them areinfrequent. According to all the420pieces of posters collected from over ten provincesor municipals, this paper just chooses one kind of campus poster---recruitment campusposter and adopts genre analysis theory to do the research among four types classifiedby their different contents: Recruitment poster (to recruit undergraduates for vacantpositions, either part-time or full-time jobs), Announcement poster (to announceinstitutes or students union’s notices or to inform special activities), Transference poster(to transfer stuffs), and Commercial poster (to promote commodities or enhanceeffective of companies’ brand, also can be called advertisement).Genre analysis has been applied to every field of linguistics commonly and thethree traditions of genre analysis have given different definitions or brought in someother items to explain it. This paper adopts Swales and Hasan’s ideas to analyze themove, Contextual Configuration (CC), Generic Structure Potential (GSP) of recruitmentcampus posters. Based on the research, this paper sums up the five communicativepurposes of recruitment campus poster at first: to arouse attention, to stir up interests, toestablish credibility, to filtrate readers, to stimulate actions. Second, this paper gets theconclusion of CC of recruitment campus poster: Field: to attract, to impart, and topersuade; Tenor: recruitment campus posters, writers, potential readers; agent roles:hierarchic, unknown to each other, maximal distance, temporary relation; Mode:constitutive role, informative, written medium. Then eight moves are illustrated.According to the result of moves, the GSP were concluded which contained threeobligatory elements, five optional elements, the recurrence and the sequence of eachelement. At last it gives the reasons why these elements appeared in the perspective ofcommunicative purposes. This paper not only gives authors enlightenment but helps readers understand theposters as well. Besides, the research of recruitment campus poster has broadened thefield of genre analysis.
