The second language reading is English reading for most China readers. The network isrich in resources that are fresh and alive. Identify and obtain valuable information is the keyto reading activities in front of the expansion of the information resources.Text signal is oneof the factors to improve reading efficiency, which is not to bring any new content but cancause the reader’s attention and words, phrases or special symbols that emphasize thestructure or a specific content.Some studies have shown that, it is the text signal effects that will bring the influence ofdifferent level to read. In our country, there are few researches done regarding the use of thetext signal on the second language in network. Whether to use text signal is better than no textsignal in the network environment? What role text signal will play between normal readingand fast reading? And how to use the research results to guide the design of reading materialsin network? This study investigated the effects of text signal on second language reading innetwork through two experiments.The first experiment explored how different forms of typographical signals to affectEnglish reading in normal reading and fast reading conditions. The secondexperiment investigated how the organizational signals, typographical signals and freesignals to affect the reading. The basic conclusions include:(1) Text signals promoted thereading process, in specific in reducing cognitive load and attract attention.(2) The effect oftext signals is different in normal reading and fast reading.(3) It is more obvious fortypographical signals that text signals will make readers more cognitive resources allocated tothe content of the marked place.(4) There is no difference among the typographical signals,But readers prefer red font and can clearly notice the existence of text signals which beconsidered useful.
