It is a fact that religion is one part can not be ignored in the culture exchangebetween East and West. Thus West people’s studying of oriental religion isnecessary to promote the procession when the East expresses itself optimistically. Aswell known that Suzuki is a quite famous Zen master and many research centers andscholars did professional studies about him while there are a few people know AlanWatts who is the outstanding student of Suzuki and was recognized as the mostimportant contributor after Suzuki in the culture exchange. On this basis this paperplans to analysis Alan Watts’ view of Zen and the method of conveying Zen to theWest from four parts including Zen and Liberation, Zen and Language, Zen and Artsand Za-Zen to give an example to the following culture co communication both inoptimistic and negative aspects.During Alan Watts’ life he experienced Christen to Buddhism and then Taoism,which offer him great convince to understand oriental culture. However, his thoughtof convey Zen to West through the concept of Dao reduces the difficulty ofunderstanding it for common West people while changing the essence of Zen.
