Fei zheng qing, a famous American sinologist and historian, has a reputationas the father of sinology·, He has done a full range of research about Chinesehistory, which not only explains Chinese social problems from a culturalperspective, but also interprets the modernization process of China with somerelated modernization theory. Studying on the Chinese modernization of Mr. Feinot merely helps deepen historical study constantly, but also provides referencefor the socialist modernization of China today.From the objective conditions and subjective conditions, this paper exploresthe basic conditions of his view of Chinese modernization; based on time itclassifies Mr. Fei·s ideas about modernization. The connotation of Mr. Fei· s ideasis different in different periods: in formation period, it was mainly reflected inwesternization μ; period of development can be summarized as his analysis ofChinese traditional culture and the modern concept with impact--responsemode·; in exploratory stage, he has an inclination for China Center Theory", digging into the internal factors of Chinese modernization. This paper considersMr. Fei·s understanding of the practice of China’s modernization as an expressivemedium,respectively explaining aspects of Mr. Fei·s ideas about culture,politics and economy, education; based on the culture, it explains themodernization of politics, economy and education. Mr. Fei paid attention tothe mutual connection and mutual promotion between them, and he emphasizedthat China’s political modernization would be more urgent than economic one. Theunique traditional culture and social structure determines the particularityof Chinese political modernization. In economic modernization, Mr. Fei focusedon the analysis of the influence of traditional culture on economic modernization.Using the Westernization Movement as the main line, he analyzed China’smodernization concept. In the cultural modernization, there is a very big disparitybetween traditional culture and modern culture, which impedes the modernizationprocess. The missionaries and Chinese students are important forces to realizethe cultural modernization. In the modernization of education, Mr. Fei stressed therole of church schools, sending students abroad and abolishing imperialexamination system. He believed that the view of Chinese modern mode is inmain external mode, developing mode, hybrid mode. In practice, it analyzes Mr.Fei·s several efforts in the process of China’s modernization. WesternizationMovement is an example of Implements modernization, while Wu xu reformmovement and Xin Hai Revolution are the main line of the system modernization. The May Fourth New Culture Movement represents the modernization of mind.On the basis of his analysis, this thesis concludes and evaluates his ideas aboutmodernization from the perspectives of historical influence, limitations andrevelation.Finally, this paper gives a summary and comment on Mr Fei·s modernizationfrom different aspects like function, influence, ideological limitations andenlightenment. Because of the age and cognitive limitations, Fei Zheng qing’sresearch on history has a strong colour of " western center theory " and "imperialism ". However, Fei Zheng qing’s view of Chinese modernizationshowing the wisdom and spirit of creation, is the important theoretical resultswhich cannot be ignored. Many views of Chinese modernization construction thathe raised have provided a useful reference for China’s modernization construction.
