After about a hundred years of development, Japanese anime becomes a uniqueculture phenomenon. It becomes popular all over the world, in Japan, eastern Asia,Europe and America, and so on. The subject matter of Japanese anime is very rich anddiversified. It covers and contains everything, from reality to fantasy, from history tomodern society. In choosing material of anime, Japanese have always pursued“Borrowed Method”. They can always take foreign cultures and use them. In thisamong them, Chinese “Three Kingdoms” is a favorite theme for the mango artist.The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is one of the four great classical novels inChinese literature. This incomparable masterpiece enjoyed not only by ourcountrymen, but also by foreigners. Because of this novel, A “Three Kingdoms” feveris sweeping over Japanese society, and anime is no exception. There are two kinds of“Three Kingdoms” animation: the romance of official history, such as Sangokushi,Soten-Koro, and so on; adapted from the novel or history, such as The Dragon Legend,Kingdom of Warriors, Koutetsu_Sangokushi, and so on.There are reasons that Japanese anime produce the trend of creating the “ThreeKingdoms” works. One of the reasons is that the spirit of The Romance of the ThreeKingdoms corresponds to Japanese culture, such as personal loyalty in the fiction andGiri in Japanese society, the military spirit in The Romance of the Three Kingdomsand Bushido, as well as Japanese mono no aware complex accords with solemn andstirring sense and the tragic fate of the characters in Three Kingdoms’ history story.Meanwhile, the artistic value and commercial value of anime are other importantreasons for "Three Kingdoms fever" in Japanese animation.When Japanese anime using the subject matter of “There Kingdoms”, they havemade great changes in the image of the characters, the themes, structures anddescriptive skills. There are some reasons for these changes. On the one hand, as aheterogeneous culture, when The Romance of the Three Kingdoms spreads in Japan, itmust be filtered and remolded according to culture tradition, cultural personality,national psychology, national aesthetic habit and social environment of Japan. On theother hand, some artistic and commercial properties of Japanese anime also influencethe presentation of There Kingdoms theme.
