The author conducted a questionnaire survey targeted at students of Chinese language elective program at the Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University in Thailand. Questionnaire content is the learner’s motivation of learning Chinese and problems that exits in the use of teaching methods and the learning and teaching process. Analysis shows that students’proficiency in Chinese of elective classes is the primary levelsthe figure that students have a strong communicative desire accounted for80%, but only3%has the ability to communicate in Chinese. Mr. Lu Beisong divided Chinese language skills into listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, and we must go through specialized training to obtain these skills.Listening and speaking in the four language skills are the most direct oral communication activities, It is most important point to develop students’ listening and speaking skills for the Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University focused on the Chinese teaching through an effective teaching method, it is also urgent needs of students. In recent years, the Chinese language teaching is thriving in the domestic and abroad.Functional approach (Functional Approach), also known as CLT (Communicative Approach) or functional-notional approach (Notional Approach), which is regarded the language communicative content as centrality so as to reach the actual communicative ability.Many scholars have quite a bit of research about the two teaching methods, but the author concluded that both methods have the relationship of advantages in coexistence and complementary disadvantages in the course of investigation documents. Total physical response (Total Physical Response TPR for short), namely learned pronunciation through action learning approach. This way is aimed at stimulating training of students’ auditory, tactile, olfactory sensory. Such training can solve the problem of that68%students are hard to say in Chinese Rambhai Barni Rajabhat University elective classes of elementary.On the basis of these conclusions, the author put forward a number of suggestions and solutions that targeted at training for listening and speaking abilities by using the composite teaching which combined the total physical response method with functional method, and hoped to provide the experience for actual classroom teaching.
