New Songs in Battlefield is a song collection which was collected all over China andedited by the State Council. This song collection got its name from the clause of"The yellow blooms on the battlefield smell sweeter." in Mao Zedong’s poemTHE DOUBLE NINTH——to the tune of Cai Sang Zi. From1972to1976, this songcollection published five sets all together including over500songs which were collected allover our country during the" Cultural Revolution". Each set takes on a distinctive feature ofthat time and it s the model in the publication of that special historical background. Thiscollection truthfully reflects the current condition of the then cultural life of the people of ourcountry and received tremendous response among the readers. New Songs in Battlefield, as aproduct of the " Cultural Revolution", gives expression to the distinctive artistic value andaesthetic appreciation of that special period. It is the important transition of the music in the"Cultural Revolution ".The music of the Cultural Revolution, as a special historical product has always beenneglected. This song collection owns its existence to be a monumental work in the music ofthe Cultural Revolution and deserves detailed analysis. At present, along with the popularityof revolutionary song, more and more people begin to recall their experiences of that period,therefore we should have a better understanding of the influence of New Songs in Battlefieldwhich was sang by almost all the Chinese people during that time. This thesis aims to give aindepth anaysis of New Songs in Battlefield in light of style through a comprehensive studyof the text of the song collection.
