Known as the King of Lieder, Franz Schubert (1797-1828) is a great artist in the history of western music. His piano sonatas are of high values, especially his late works D958, D959, D960. Among them D959is worth all the effort to do profound research on.Composed of introduction, main body and conclusion, this thesis introduces on the basis of historical data three of Schubert’s late piano sonatas and then emphasizes on the specialty and values of D959. By analyzing the structure and performance of the first and second movements of D959, the author has found some structural paradoxes featuring internal stretching force, such as "balance in imbalance""lyricism in hot boldness" and "long-drawn-out tenderness in simplicity" Furthermore, the author has paid much attention to the mastering of some key elements in performing this great piece, such as the work composition, key touching, pedaling, emotions delivering, etc.All in all, the profoundness and research values of Schubert’s D959have been demonstrated in this thesis.
