Government-run m icroblog (GM) has cause d the attention of people from all walks of lif e becaus e o f its rapid devel opment and its important ro le in m odern political life. And scholars have m ade studies on GM from dif ferent disciplines. In this thes is, the author will analy ze Chin ese GM f rom the perspective of critical discourse analysis, with the purpose of describing the form al features of Chinese GM discourse, interpreting GM discourse in re lation to the process of its production, distribution and consumption, explaining the ideology and power hidden behind GM discourse and their soci al functions. The author em ploys Fairclough’s three-dimensional framework to study the GM samples selected from Sina.com in the following three dimensions, that is, text, discursive practice and social practice.To analyze GM as text is to study the relationship between discourse f orm and ideology. Theoretically speaking, discourse at all levels and all kinds of structures is likely to reflect ideology. But in concrete analysis, researchers tend to focus on some language structures and processes w hich have important social m eaning. Therefore, the author carries ou t the analysis from classification, modality and tran sformation. It is found that,1) the vocabulary of GM are full of emotions;2)Buzzword and popular styles are welcom ed in GM, for th ey are of great value to comm unicative effect;3)The subject, the theme and the m edium of GM have own fea tures that are distinct from the traditional government documents. And the choice of language form is the act under the control of ideology.As to the dim ension-discursive practice, the autho r analyzes GM discou rse through the analysis of force, coherence and intertextuality. It is found that,1) different speech acts are used according to different contents of GM;2) with regard to politeness, the producers of GM usually te nd to adopt m ore polite s trategies;3)the coherence of GM is realized by the sam e topic or the sam e theme;4)the interactivity of GM determines the intertextuality of GM discourse.The dim ension of social practice explai ns GM discourse from the points of ideology and power. It is f ound that,1) the discursive practice of GM proves the officials’ continuously innovative and peopl e-oriented governing philosophies;2) under the guidance of its governing philosophies, the of ficials m ake full use of the advantages of GM discourse to build a good image;3) during the interaction through microblog. rhe public have obtained more disc ourse power, which contributes a lot to the progress of democracy in China. The analysis of GM discourse in this thesis has a great significance both in theory and practice. First of all, the author studies GM from the point of critical discourse analysis, which expands the research scope of GM. Secondly, the analysis of the linguistic characteristics of GM can help the producers release the m icroblog in a more effective way. Finally, the author puts forward some suggestions on how to take advantage of GM to construct the good image and do social management.
