Multi Perspective On "TongShi"

The pronoun"tongshi"(同时) is a particular time word in the pronoun system of modern Chinese,which combines some of the characteristics of time nouns,adverbs and conjunctions. This thesis is based on the facts of CCL modern Chinese language database,we do this analysis from multi-perspective such as dynamic, semantics, syntax, pragmatics and discourse.The thesis consists five parts.The first part has analyzed the processes and mechanisms of the grammaticalization about "tongshi" in ancient Chinese. We divide it into "tongshii","tongshi2" and "tongshi3",which are scope time noun,time adverb and conjunction.The second part has analyzed the semantic of "tongshi",respectively investigates the semantic structure mode of " tongshi1"," tongshi2" and "tongshi3". In addition,we also analyzed the semantic of "yuci tongshi",pointed out its differences and relations with "tongshi".The third part has examined the syntactic position of the three "tongshi",and made an objective syntax distribution statistics.The forth part has discussed the movement of "tongshi" in pragmatics, pointed out the differences on pragmatic function and textual function of the sentence with the position change of "tongshi".The fifth part has discussed the textual function of "tongshi". First,the position of "tongshi"in discourse are classified into fixed and non-fixed types. Second,the "speech block of tongshi"has structural model and semantic relation between the former and latter item," tongshi" also has marked function when it used in multiple coordinate phrases. Moreover,there are many co-occurrence words appeared with "tongshi" in discourse. These words can promote the semantic expressions in the "speech block of tongshi", and semantic harmony with context. At last,we analyzed the apparitions, anaphora and the textual function of "tongshi" in discourse.
