As a controversial literary figure,“third party”has not always been favored by theliterary world. With the diachronic changes of the development of different literarytrends as well as social context, the image of “third party” shows different characteristicsat different times. In the50th, under severe political pressure, the revolutionary narrativehas almost become the main stream of the literature world, and the “high greatperfect”figures were welcomed as the benchmark of that time. However, the “thirdparty’”once became a sensitive topic which was avoided by almost all authors. It onlywas transient during the “Double Hundred Approach”, but it was still difficult to get ridof the influence of the political civilization. In addition, the Cultural Revolution made theentire literary suffers unprecedented difficulties, which even lead to the blank page of theimage of “third party”. Only until the80th, the tide of the liberation of humanity hadstimulated the development of the image of the “third party”. Zhang Jie as arepresentative author began to enter this “restricted zone” to shape the image of “thirdparty” from the stance of humanity rather than using the revolutionary narrative language. However, it still cannot break the tether of morality and ethics and gradually showed atendency of moral suasion. Since the1990s, under the impact of the commodity economy, the power of humanity has experienced a great test. Personal desires wereunprecedentedly released, which made human’s ethics suffer a great retrogressing in thematerialistic society. Thus the “third party” phenomenon is common in modern world. As literature tended to be commercialized, the “third party” image was brought to avariety of literary creation as narrative elements. On the one hand, it enriched theperspectives of literary creation. On the other hand, it became a “selling point” which cancatch the attention of readers, and meanwhile it met the requirements of readers in the“fast-food reading” time. The “third party”shows its various characteristics in different eras. It is not onlyrelated to the contemporary literature trend, but also related to the moral and ethicchanges in different times. The “third party” is not just a symbol of literary image, it isalso the carrier of the rich literary significance as well as ethic of eras. Seen from the different images the “third party”shows, we can see the diachronic change of ethics inmodern times. This paper will target at discussing the “third party” image and analyzingthe relationship between the “third party” and literature trend in the present age on thebasis of moral categorization of “third party”. In other words, this paper focuses onstudying the historical background of the emergence of the “third party”. Then it willpoint out in what way the “third party” image present in different cultural context, whichmeans the image of “third party” in contemporary literature and the role positioning inthe creation process. The relationship between the “third party” and modern ethics willbe further discussed in this dissertation. In addition, it will analyze the reason why “thirdparty” common exists in different era and associate the changes of human nature withcontemporary ethic disorder. Finally this dissertation will focus on the introspection whypeople tend to associate the “third party” with female without any resistance from women, and then point out women’s biased self-awareness as well as value orientation. In the literary field, the reviews focused on “third party” are not that satisfying innumber as well as response due to its complexty and controversial. Under the constraintof various literature trends and social background, no matter authors or critics arecautious towards “third party”. With the development of emancipation of humanity andthe impact of commodity economy, there tends to be an increasing number of literatureworks related to “third party” image. However, it seems that there are few literarycommentary associate with that. Thus in my opinion, literature which is closely related tohumanology should cover all the aspects of literary images. As “third party” imageindeed exists, literary commentary concerning that should not be the gap in the field ofliterary criticism. From the social point of view, it tends to be worthwhile to analyze therelationship between the “third party” and modern ethics in the age which lacks moralityand “third party” phenomenon commonly exist. In this way, it can arouse people tointrospect on that and establish correct moral and ethical values.
