Jack Kerouac wrote18novels in his life time, such as “The Towns And Cities”,“On The Road”,“Dharma Bum”,“The Lonely Traveler”,“Desolation Angels “,“TheHippo Was Cooked To Death In The Sink”, etc. In novels like “On The Road”,“DharmaBum”,“The Lonely Traveler”,“Desolation Angels”, the main characters and theirbehavior reflects the relatively obvious phenomenon of "escape". The author intends toadopt the way of close reading, by Jack Kerouac novels as the text research object, usesDuan Yifu escapism theory as the theoretical support, and analysize the phenomenon of"escape" in Jack Kerouac novels.The thesis is divided into five chapters, the basic idea and the structure is asfollows:The first chapter is the introduction part,divided as three sections. First section isthe details of the topic as well as the significance and academic value of the research.The second section describes the research status of both at home and abroad.The thirdsection divided as three parts as well, the first part describes basic ideas of the thesis,the second part introduces Duan Yifu theory of escapism, the third part defines therelated terms in the thesis.The second chapter devided as three sections, with the method of close reading,from three angles to study Kerouac embodied the "escape" phenomenonn in the text.The first section discusses the “escape” of the space environment. The second sectiondiscusses the “escape” of the spiritual beliefs. The third section discusses the “escape”from the “middle landscape”.The third chapter has six sections that analysize from five different angles whichexpounds reasons of the phenomenon of "escape" in Kerouac works. First is the timebackground of the "escape" phenomenon.The second is "escape" roots of westernancient Greek culture. In the third quarter, personal growth experience of the author. The fourth section, the group effect of BG pursuing cultural identity. The fifth section,the influence of the other writers.The fourth chapter, the "escape" phenomenon of Kerouac, the thinking of reality,Kerouac works embody the practical significance in the contemporary time.The fifth chapter, conclusion, summarizes the full thesis.
