This thesis takes the form of case analysis and translates the Chicken Soup withBarley written by the American dramatist Arnold Wesker which is one of The WeskerTrilogy. The Wesker Trilogy are Roots, I’m Talking about Jerusalem, Chicken Soup WithBarley.Chicken Soup with Barley is a historical play which told us a story about a Jewishfamily lived in East End. They have been against Fascist for twenty years and finallytheir dreams have broken. This play using vivid language showed us how a Jewishfamily lived their life during such a hard time and the process of their dream broken.The writer artfully liked a small family with the whole political situation in that time.Drama language has the feature of characterization, full of action, connotation andelegance. So, the translator must follow some rules and strategies. For example, thetranslator should balance the rule of “faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance”; thetranslator should pay attention to the Context and properly deal with the specificity ofdrama language; the translator should properly translate the idiom in the play; thetranslator should properly face the culture difference during the translation.This thesis made a rounded analysis of translating rules and strategies on the basisof translating Chicken Soup with Barley and combined the important and difficult pointsduring the translation as well as the language feature of play.
