This study examines the implicit emotions with the inattentional blindnessparadigm, concerned about the Chinese people’s implicit racial prejudice as well ashow implicit emotions impact racial stereotypes. OBJECTIVE: Chinese collegestudents(24students participants that complete the experiment are randomly selectedfrom a Normal University) as participants of the experiment, research takes event-related potentials technology to explore the time course of implicit emotions impactracial sterotype; METHODS: All participants complete gender decision task: rule iswhether tow faces belong to the same gender (cross-balanced design betweenparticipants); RESULTS:(1)significant main effect of gender: men and women’s facesprocessing time are considerable; EEG data also show that men and women haveneither a significant difference in the performance of race, nor in the performence ofthe emotional faces;(2) Implicit racial bias seems exist, the performance of theChinese people is: reaction times on white people and yellow people are fairly, andsignificantly faster than the face of black;(3) Significant main effect of emotions:responses of the positive and negative emotions exsit no difference, but neutralemotional faces are apparently different. Reaction time of neutral emotional facessignificantly faster than emotional faces;(4) Behavior results show implicit emotionaland ethnic processing have a significant interaction: participants’ responses areconsiderable between positive emotional faces and negative emotional faces race, butthe reaction time of black people is significantly higher than Caucasians and yellowpeople; At the same time, for Caucasians and yellow people, nonemotional faces’reaction time significantly faster than the faces with emotional informations, and thereis no clear distinction in emotions of the black people;(5) ERP experimental resultson N2and the P300components’ main effect of three valence differences: positivefaces’ amplitude is significantly greater than the negative and neutral faces; thenegative faces’ amplitude is significantly greater than the neutral faces. At he same time, the longest reaction among participants is the reaction of the black faces, but thereaction of white and yellow people have a discrepancy, too: the amplitude of theyellow faces is significantly smaller than the amplitude of white and black. Thereexsits interaction between implicit emotions and racial faces, further simple effectanalysis shows that in yellow faces conditions, three implicit emotional types exsitsignificantly difference: the amplitude of the negative emotions is significantly greaterthan the neutral and positive emotions. There is no significant difference in theperformance of gender. CONCLUSIONS: In implicit level, there is no differencebetween emotional information (positive and negative); Chinese people have implicitracial prejudice tendency, and treat yellow people and Caucasians as a group; thereexsits effect of the family.
