Since the1980s, the globalized process has been advancing forward rapidly. As the proceeding further accelerates fleetly, Singaporeans are confronted not only with communication and collision of the western and eastern cultures but with violent identity confusion and imminent identity crisis, which stimulate them to crave for a brand-new identity.Due to the absent situation of the study of Hwee Hwee Tan, one of the most accomplished writers in Singaporean contemporary society, and her works both at home and abroad, this thesis addresses her second novel Mammon Inc., which has the original significance to some extent.Chiah Deng Gan, the main protagonist of Mammon Inc., a Singaporean who graduates from Oxford, is faced with the predicament of making a decision about her true vocation. There are three options available such as Professor Ad-oy, Tock Seng, her sweetheart as well as Mammon Inc., which she has to choose. At last, she selects Mammon Inc. as her identity ascription.Set in the background of globalization, based on the relevant theories of identity, this paper mainly analyses the issues of identity of Singaporeans from the perspective of culture such as identity confusion, identity crisis, identity consciousness as well as identity reestablishment and so on. Here the research methodology employed mainly refers to comparison and contrast, example illustration, etc.The thesis consists of the following seven chapters including introduction, literature review, the representation of globalization in Mammon Inc., the issues of identity, the influence of globalization on identity, identity reestablishment and conclusion as well.It comes to the conclusions that under the overwhelming impact of globalization, Singaporeans are strongly waking up to their sense of identity belonging, that due to its unique national conditions, it is approaching for Singaporeans to reconstruct a completely new identity. Last but not least, the thesis aims to evoke current Singaporeans to be aware of their own identity especially of cultural identity and to struggle for their unique identity ascription.
