Literary Influence and acceptance is an important issue in literature. Yu Xin, as asynthesizer of the Southern and Northern Dynasty literature, had significant and far-reachinginfluence on the early and grand Tang literature. Therefore, it is very meaningful to dofurther research on him.Yu Xin, living in the late Southern and Northern Dynasties, was the writer with thebiggest achievements and influence throughout the Southern and Northern Dynasty era. Hewas not only the synthesizer of the literature of the Six Dynasties, but also the pioneer of theSui and Tang literature. Yu was one of several prolific writers during the SixDynasties. His styles were considerable, including poetry, descriptive prose, parallel prose,Yuefu songs, lyrics, and inscriptions, and his achievements were outstanding especially inpoetry, descriptive prose, and parallel prose. His works were divided into two phases by thetime he entered the North. In general, his earlier works had gained certain achievementswith regards to his creative skills, but his later works reflected a much wider span of lives, and the creative skills were more mature, forming a unique style with vigor.Yu Xin had a significant influence especially on the early and grand Tang literature. He served as an important bridge for the transition from the Southern and Northern Dynastyliterature to the literature of the grand Tang. Therefore, he was considered a pioneer of Tangliterature. Many of the early and grand Tang writers, such as Wang Ji, the Four Masters, LiBai, Du Fu, and Gao Yue, were more or less influenced by him. Specifically, Yu Xin hadaccumulated a wealth of experience in word usage, sound and forms of words, parallel, andetc, and his poetry has a vigorous and unconstrained style and desolate mood which werewidely received and imitated during the Tang. His quatrains, regulated verses, andseven-character per line poems became the pioneers of the Tang Poems. Most importantly,he integrated the creative achievements by the prior generation and the Southern and Northernwriters; he broke through the already-formed creative barriers and combined the literary graceof the South with the creative style of the North. This provided the early Tang with anexcellent model. The Tang poems, which developed through this path, eventually formedthe magnificent and all-inclusive Grand Tang literary atmosphere.Generally speaking, the attitude towards Yu in the Tang Dynasty was calmer, objective, with neither full acceptance, nor outright rejection. It was the active and creative absorptionof the essence of Yu Xin’s literary works that ushered in the prosperity of the grand Tangliterature and caused literature to reach its peak. If the literature of Tang was a brilliantsymphony, Yu was the prelude to this symphony. In the history of the development ofChinese literature, Yu Xin successfully served as the literary link between the past and future. It can be said that Yu Xin’s literary works were the prelude to the sound of the grand Tang, and his influence on the early and grand Tang literature was specific, direct, evident andcomprehensive.
