The Study Of Mencius Cultural Criticism Theory

Cultural study had become one of the chief discourse resources towards China’s social-cultural criticism Since the90s of the last century which is just the background that this paper was discussed over its big exploration about the social cultural criticism discourse of Mencius. Based on the dominant idea of Mencius, this paper mainly deciphers Mencius’real purpose for political, economy and his criticism to alien culture in order to get better understanding and mastering his profound meanings over cultural criticism via analyzing the unique social context and its theoretical background of Mencius’thought in-depth. Furthermore, through the analysis of its dual revelations between the construction of contemporary Chinese culture and the cultural criticism theory which give rise to reveal Mencius cultural criticism theory on the deep study of contemporary Chinese culture.The first part analyses the basis of cultural criticism over Mencius theory. Its cultural criticism theory produced in the special historical context namely the Spring and Autumn Period which set foot on the reality of that time with all-round investigations and then is put forward as the historic product. As any thought is just like water with source, this part mainly takes the cultural prosperity of pre-Qin period and its realistic mutual conquering among diverse federal kingdoms as its background along with the theoretical environments that fulfilled within faith crisis over ritual collapse and the cultural challenges suffered from Confucianism to discuss the theoretical resource of the Mencius cultural criticism.The second part goes deep into interpreting "Mencius" original and reading the original texts on the basis of predecessors’ researchers to illustrate the main contents of Mencius theory of cultural criticism. This part expounds the connotation of Mencius theory of cultural criticism respectively from the following three parts:the unique music culture, alien culture and humanistic concept with meditate on the plot of Mencius.The third part summarizes the significance and revelation of the cultural criticism theory through systematically conclusion of the former two parts. As we know, introspecting the ancient is good for inducing today, therefore, revealing the historical values and contemporary enlightenment and absorbing its inherent essence is beneficial to provide reference not only for the contemporary Chinese cultural construction but also to the cultural studies.
