"No Tears, No Sadness", which is sung by Han Ying, is a core aria of class Chinese red opera called "The Honghu Red Guards". This song reflects Han Ying’s loyalty to the revolution, cherish to her comrades-in-arms and hatred to the enemies when she was in prison. This song successfully creates a female member of the Communist Party who is brave and strong, taking death calmly.Chapter1introduces the background, the plot and the features of "The Honghu Red Guards", in order to reflect the background of the story, the theme of the opera and the female hero image of Han Ying. Chapter2states the lyrics, music structure and the creation feature of "No Tears, No Sadness" in detail. From the perspective of lyric, it shows the contents by describing Han Ying life experience from a fisher girl to a member of the Communist Party of China, and then being arrested, which demonstrates her loyalty to the revolution. From the perspective of structure, this song is a Chinese traditional opera with the curved plate cavity structure, and beautiful melody but hard to perform. As to the creation, this song has innovation in the aspects of drama, music and literature, which is worth investigating in detail. Chapter3firstly concludes skills used to portray the character image in this song, and then compares the different singing arts between Wang Yuzhen and Liu Danli. Thereafter, this chapter analyses the methods of the singing arts. In the section of conclusion, the dissertation claims some recommendations for Chinese opera.
