This paper is based on the translation of Chapter Tenfor the limitation of the length.Roderick Hudson is a novel by Henry James. It was first published in1875as a serialin The Atlantic Monthly. As a bildungsroman it traces the development of the title character,a sculptor. This novel is a description of a young man who is full of artistic temperament andsimilar to Icarus, who flies too close to the sun. Roderick cannot be saved from the path toself-destruction he seems set on. At last he died in a storm. Chapter Ten just describes thegloomy period of Roderick Hudson, who looses his inspiration and shakes off the control ofRowland at that time while he falls in love with a lady he cannot ever have.
