Taking specific state of acceptance of Jia Zhangke’s films as starting point and using reception aesthetics for reference, this thesis tried to interpret Jia Zhangke’s films from the view point of reception. Through various acceptant presentations of audience, the thesis, from the object and subject of acceptance, explained intensively the intrinsic reason that the acceptant state of his films exist significant differences. This research will show illuminating significations for realizing the value of Jia Zhangke’s films again and its more extensive, long-term road in the future. Unlike previous studies focused on the "first text", that is Jia Zhangke’s film itself, the innovation of this thesis lay in taking the "second text", the acceptant state of his works, as the center of this study. On the basis of completing the study on acceptance of his films, this thesis put forward the rational reflection that how to breakout between artistry and commercialization even go farther for Jia Zhangke’s films.This thesis consisted of five parts. Chapter one was mainly about the origin of the problem, related research dynamic and the significance of methodology about reception aesthetics. Chapter two mainly generalized the effect of reception about Jia Zhangke’s films. As we can see, at present, Jia Zhangke’s films showed different state of acceptance at three dimension, at home and abroad, minority and majority, the true extent of understanding. Chapter three used "potential readers" theory to analyse the way that the object of acceptance (films) used a variety of factors to stimulate the potential readers "reading", at the same time expressed the director’s creative thought. From the angle of the acceptant object (audience), chapter four focused on analyzing the cause of the acceptant effect concerning Jia Zhangke’s films. The last chapter briefly dealt with the way how to breakthrough for Jia Zhangke’s films.
