There is a close relation between feminism and the female painting. They affect each other and can not be separated. This thesis about the relation between feminism and female painting explores the influence feminism has brought to modern China by reasoning from perspectives of history, politic,and art. The chapter about the origins of feminism theory includes the discussion on the reasons in terms of history and politic. It lists the categories and meanings of feminism in different times by combining the feminism movements in the West. Then the thesis studies the four phases of the feminism’s development after it is disseminated to China. It also describes the deconstruction and reconstruction in the field of art brought by feminism and analyzes detailedly the background and meaning. Finally, the author’s real feeling is shown based on the research of the relation between feminism and female painting. As one of the Chinese women, the author expresses her own findings about the problem of surviving and development of the female painters in the background of China.Some people’s misunderstanding towards feminism leads to the derogatory sense of female painting in some occasions. This thesis conducts a systematic study on the development of feminism and the impact on people’s thought as well as the painting field in China brought by its dissemination to China. It also explores the reason for the misunderstanding, the prospect and meaning of the painting influenced by feminism. The study of feminism offers a fulcrum to the female painter’s learning, which enables us to think further on the phenomenon in art and gain the connotation by deepening from the surface for a true self. Therefore, this research provides people with new material and way of thinking to stick to the art.
