Based on previous studies on the political translation and the application of critical discourse analysis(CDA) in translation studies at home and abroad, this thesis carries out an analysis of the Chinese-English(C-E) translation of the Report from the perspective of CDA to reveal the influence of ideology on thetranslation of political speech.Different from the domestic studies that CDA is mainly applied in monolingual discourse analysis andthe focuses of political translation are translation skills and problems at linguistic level, this research adoptsclassification, transitivity, modality and transformation in systemic functional grammar (SFG) as analyticaltools, locates the source and target texts in the concrete socio-ideological context, and carries out acomparative analysis to probe into the relationship between linguistic form and ideology in the C-Etranslation process of political speech.First, the source of texts and the socio-ideological context in which the texts are produced areelaborated. Then through the comparative analysis between the source and target texts in the aspects ofclassification, transitivity, modality and transformation, the shifts of linguistic forms in the translationprocess are presented clearly. In addition, the present study combines the changes of linguistic form withconcrete socio-ideological context together, analyzes the causal relationship between linguistic changes andideology, and further testifies how ideology influences the translation of political speech through linguisticchoice. The research manifests that ideological influence is realized not only by lexical choice and selection ofprocess types and participants, but also by changes of modality and transformation of sentence structure. Tobe more specific, the translated text of political speech is the result of ideological influence on linguisticchoice, and maintains the present social structure and relation at the same time.
