At all times and in all lands, freedom has always been one of the sages ‘s thinkingpoints, and its meaning is constantly changing, but the unchanging thing is people’sdesire and pursuing of freedom has never stopped. Freedom will never be outdated, thisconcept in literary works is a subject worthy of study, it has important research value. LuXun and Goethe, as heavyweight writers in China and Germen, the discussing of theconcept of freedom in their works is numerous. Studying of concepts of freedom andchange between them is not only able to learn more about the process of humanunderstanding of the freedom, but the analysis the same and difference between two freeconcepts. Analyze the reasons according to the cultural background, different historicalbackground, the understanding of the similarities and differences of the concept offreedom and so on. Freedom of literary works continued to be explored concepts. Thereare a lot of studies of Lu Xun’s concept of freedom in published researches,, but thestudy of Goethe’s is a little. Comparative study the concept of freedom of Lu Xun andGoethe are less either, it makes the greater the value of research on this topic.This essay adopts a parallel study method, which try to compare the literary worksof Lu Xun and the Goethe novel concept of freedom. Analyze their similarities anddifferences in which the basis of analysis of the similarities and differences between thehistorical, cultural and personal reasons. And with sociology, psychology and otherrelated theories attempt to interpret the two concepts. The study found that the process ofthe development of the concept of freedom of Lu Xun and Goethe had once fell into thatfreedom is not available and the result is the hero must die, but at last they both find away of freedom. In the process, Lu Xun and Goethe were impacted deeply by their ownculture and the historical stage, and showed a lot of points in common in the opposite offreedom-bondage aspect and also showed many differences in degree and ways inpursuing freedom.
