The Present Chinese Youth Queer Culture Studies

“Queer” was first put forward by Teresa de Lauretis in "Queer Theory" issue ofDifferences.As a group, Queer represent all the people that opposed to heterosexualhegemony, lesbian/ay/bisexual/transgender/transvestism/the S&M. Based onindividual differences but with the same interest of the resistance to heterosexualhegemony system,the performance of queer’s life style/way of thinking/behavioralhabit,together comprise the queer culture.And yet we can’t make a strict definition ofqueer culture. This paper, the author discussed current situation of young queer in China,through the interview of nineteen queers. First of all, Personal identity and sentimentissues which queer faced under the heterosexual hegemony system. At what point queercan became a political identity and summon a political practice. Second, discussed thepressure of coming out of colset and getting married, and questioned the legitimacy ofthe heterosexual institution of marriage. Third, problems at work and economic issuesfor queer. Analyzed the connection between social structure and queer, and tried to findpossible political solutions. Young queer culture not only refers to human rights issuesof the young minority of sex/gender, during the globalization process driven by capital,but also the subcultural phenomenon controlled by ideology.One of the purpose of thispaper is to discuss the connection between ideology of consumption of young queerculture controlled by capital and its gender order. No doubt, this connection is quitecomplicated, economic, political, cultural and other factors, different attitude ofresistance/compromise/negotiation, all these are twined in queer culture. In order tostudy this multi-determined and complex culture phenomenon, this article use themethodology of culture study, not only to interpret text contained of queer conception,but also to explore the relationship between queer and actual structure as well aseveryday life. Further more, this paper intend to analyse the interaction between queerand multiple power in social structure, making conversations/consultations/evenresistance and compromise, queer text and everyday life, queer culture and capitalism.
