| As an influential group in the Chinese network language, Chinese net catchwordappears with the development of the times and reacts to the features of the times. Theyoften closely relate with the social significant events, so it is obvious that the translationof Chinese network catchwords is not only merely a linguistic problem. Almost theemergence of each hot spot will lead to Chinese net catchword’s come into being. Inlight of the importance of the translation of Chinese network catchword in linguisticculture and social life, it has attracted special attention and world-wide concern fromdomestic and foreign scholars. However, many translators and researchers only stay inthe stage of commenting on translation achievement and put more emphasis on thestudies of the concrete techniques when they explore the internal translation rules. Theytry to summarize some translation strategies such as creative translation, literaltranslation, literal translation plus connotation, free translation, but few of them haveever studied the cognitive process of the linguistic translation. Thus, they can’t give aperfect explanation to the translation of Chinese network catchwords. The paper beliefsthat the conceptual integration theory put forward by the American cognitive linguisticGills Fauconnier can properly interpret the cognitive process of the net catchwordtranslation. So under the guidance of the conceptual integration theory we can constructthe translational mode of the Chinese net catchword which is a dynamic processblended through the four mental spaces. It can be seen that Chinese net catchwordtranslation is not only a kind of language transformational behavior, but it is a cognitiveprocess, namely, it is a conceptual integration process overcures in the translator’s mind. This process can be divided into two stages: the first stage is the process ofunderstanding and analyzing the original text by the translator; the second stagereconstruct the translation version according to the translator’s own backgroundknowledge and cultural cognitive model. In the chapter four, the author tries to applythe two sub-networks of the conceptual integration theory into in the practical course ofChinese net catchwords translation which are single-scope conceptual integrationnetwork and double-scope conceptual integration network, and then analyze how the translated text generates respectively in these two conditions. The thesis aims toprobe into the cognitive mental mechanism during the process of Chinese Netcatchwords Translation from the perspective of conceptual integration theory. |
