In the first half of the20thcentury, specific historical background supports fertile soil for a series of trend of "ending" such as the end of history、the end of philosophy termination of politics、and so on in western academic field. In art circles, although 《Fountain》 of Duchamp didn’t enter the exhibition successfully, a series of Duchamp puzzle caused by him, overthrowing the existed foundation of philosophy and aesthetics thoroughly, causing a scene of ending. Hegel’s "end of art theory" was also attract more and more attention through Danto, it is still a hot topic nowadays. Coerced by the trend of "ending", artist exhausted their energy after unceasing innovation and crossing the border finally, modern art has become a pronoun for the new art like multi-media|、 appliance、action, however, traditional art form like easel painting is fading away, losing its legitimacy position and is becoming marginalization, living as a "residual" And western theory is mainly about aesthetic researching of image in visual form, in other words it is aesthetic researching of likeness, it is centered on visual subjectivity, and purification of image itself. In the last hundred years, Chinese contemporary art couldn’t break out of the mold of copying western contemporary art; we can’t owe this to the essential of oil painting as imported goods, it is mainly because that creative concept or of most artist is based on western art aesthetics and system of philosophy. Moreover, because of the specific development path of China, lacking for researching for western art theory in home, additionally, art theory is one of the most weakest subject in China, when facing to the flooding of western theory after China carried out reform and open policy, it’s no wonder that scholars have the suspicion for distorting interpretation of academic theory, just as a smoke bomb in China contemporary art, making artists and the young scholars lost and confused. This ecological condition of Chinese modern easel painting, supporting sufficient theory and realistic basis for the new concept of "The painting of Remaining Image" surviving in Chinese modern art circles.Basing on the art context of post-history, combining with Chinese traditional aesthetics theory, this paper discusses whether Chinese contemporary art will end from ’Chinese"、"modern"、"art" three aspects."Chinese" won’t come to an end, because of western standard of Chinese contemporary art, since the oil painting introduced into China the oil painting itself did not possess the real" Chinese characteristics ";The " contemporary " will be replaced by the next " contemporary ". Art as the product of Europe enlightening modernity, according to the theory of Danto and Hegel, the ultimate destination of art should be philosophy if it comes to an end. While the foundation of Europe aesthetics and philosophy had been overthrown by Duchamp thoroughly, if we suppose the destination node of art is Chinese philosophy, art in China will get new chance for its development and continuity. The concept of " The painting of Remaining Image " stands for painting should find new development probability in Chinese traditional philosophy. Contemporary art as remained painting inherits realm of " idea ", calling for returning of beauty of ideology. Since ecological environment of modern art emphasizes diversity, why don’t we start from " The painting of Remaining Image " to find and explore a new way of Chinese contemporary art, of course voice is weak, road is uncommon, but may serve as a specimen.
