The Research On Russell Sage Foundationn(1907-1919)

Russell Sage Foundation was established in1907,which is the earliest American private foundation in twentieth Century. Played a pioneer role in charity, improving workingwomens’rights, promoting American elementary education. And its greatest contribution lies in the social investigation and analysis, which started the development of American social science of the twentieth Century. This paper is mainly divided into three parts:the first chapter, the establishment of Russell Sage Foundation, the foundation’s establishment background and the members of the committee; the second chapter, Sage Foundation’s main activities in1907-1917, introduces the foundation’s mainly departments which set up in the first ten years. and achievement in public welfare; the third chapter, Sage Foundation’s volunteer working in the first world war, Show the Sage Foundation’s contribution to the United States, show the foundation’s huge potential in some areas of social science.
