At present, pregnant women are required to go to hospital for Fetal Heart Rate (FHR) examination which just reflects the status of fetal heart rate at that moment. Some acute abnormalities like acute decrease in oxygen and etc. can not be detected if FHR can not be regularly examined at home which have the potential to cause serious healthy consequences in fetus, so fetal monitoring at home becomes very important. Two methods are often used for fetal monitoring at home, listening stethoscopically to the fetal heart beat and accounting fetal movement, which have the disadvantage of limited clinical accuracy.This thesis is focused on the design and implementation of a home Doppler fetal heartbeat monitor which is portable, safety and marketable. Based on the theory of ultrasound Doppler, the demodulated fetal heart sound signal is amplified by low-frequency and power amplifier, then delivered via earphone. Using ADSL network design for remote fetal heart rate monitoring system, Doppler fetal heart signal is sent to remote FHR automatic monitor centre where the fetal heart rate can be detected with auto-correlation algorithm.The registered product standard for this home Doppler fetal heartbeat monitor has been completed and has been adopted. The test report on this product registration given by Shanghai Testing & Inspection Institute for Medical Devices shows the performance specifications such as acoustic working frequency, ultrasonic output power, overall sensitivity, spatial-peak acoustic pressure, target plane-wave reflection loss, were either comparable or superior to those of other applicable standards.Clinical testing and result validation by some hospitals in Shanghai city shows that the device performed well and the fetal heartbeat can be heard clearly after the 16th weeks of pregnancy.The innovation works reflect :the design of the product has been completed and two patents have been applied for, The registered product standard for this home Doppler fetal heartbeat monitor has been completed.
