Objective: To observe the clinical curative effect of application with Restoring NormalBowel Movement in the early phase of severe acute pancreatitis (SAP). And combine fromthe theories with clincal research, to explore the mechianism of treating severe acutepancreatitis with Restoring Normal Bowel Movement in the early phase. Inergratedtraditional Chinese medicine and western medicine may be found a new idea and methodthough this study. Methods: 52 patients with SAP are divided into three groups. All groups are given bynormal therapy. In addition, the group A is given therapy of Restoring Normal BowelMovement in the first day after admission; the group B is given in the second day; thegroup C is given in the third day or other days. Day of abdominal pain and abdominaldistension are compared. Laboratory parameters such as WBC, AMY, Ca, Urea, Cr, etc, areexamined after admission; scores of Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluationâ…ˇand Ranson are compared at the same time. Infection, local complication andorgan/systemic complications, medical fee, mortality rate are all compared in three groups. Results: There are significant difference in the day of abdominal pain and abdominaldistension between the group A and group B, C. Oherwise, in group A and B, infection, local complication and organ/systemic complications, medical free are lower than the groupC. But no significant differences are noted when comparing the hospital stay, hospitalmorality rate during the study. Conclusions: Application with Restoring Normal Bowel Movement in the early phaseof SAP is a safe and effective therapy. And the mechanism might be to diminish generaltoxical symptoms, promote gastrointestinal motility, protect gut barrier, provent thebacterial translocation and avoid second shock.
