Objective: Chronic rhinitis is common disease of chronic inflammation in mucosa andsubnatant mucosa. Comparing the distribution of NOS between human normal nasalmucosa (from deflection of nasal septum)and nasal mucosa of chronic rhinitis .To find therelationship between syndrome differentiation of TCM and expression of NOS in humannasal mucosa in chronic rhinitis. In order to bring the micro index into syndromedifferentiation of TCM, to better guide the treatment of TCM .This study detected objectiveindex in chronic rhinitis from the point of view of the combination of Chinese and westmedicineMethod: Take part of inferior turbinate from the patient of chronic rhinitis and thedeflection of nasal septum, and divide the chronic rhinitis into two group: syndrome ofdeficiency of vital energy and syndrome of blood stasis. Using staining of immunhistochemistry to observe the localization and expression of endothelial NOS(eNOS) andinduced NOS (iNOS) in normal nasal mucosa ,and nasal mucosa of chronic rhinitis.Results: HE staining shows: the cytoplasm of surface epithelium and the basal laminawas thicken, glandular of organ was hyperplasy, the vessel was broaden. Positive stainingof immunostaining for eNOS was buffy, and localized to the cytoplasm of surfaceepithelium, glandular of organ and moderate in vascular endothelia cell in all subjects.Immunostaining for iNOS was seen in the cytoplasm of surface epithelium and vascularendothelial cells in the glandular of organ from patients with chronic rhinitis. Also itoccurred in the inflammatory cells. The normal nasal mucosa was negative. Take 5 picturestrabant in every slice in high power lens, from image analysis and SPSS11.5 statistic, wefind the expression of eNOS is no difference between human normal nasal mucosa andnasal mucosa of chronic rhinitis. The expression of iNOS in nasal mucosa of chronicrhinitis higher than the normal, and higher in blood stasis of chronic rhinitis than indeficiency of vital energy.Conclusion: The distribution of NOS can be found in human nasal mucosa. The eNOSwas both found in human nasal mucosa of normal and chronic rhinitis and there is nodifference between the groups. The expression of iNOS in nasal mucosa of chronic rhinitisis significantly stronger than that in normal group. The study shows iNOS plays animportant role in chronic rhinitis, it may causes the increase of the nasal secretion andedema associated with chronic rhinitis. The expression of iNOS in nasal mucosa higher inblood stasis of chronic rhinitis than in deficiency of vital energy, the study shows thedependability between the iNOS and the syndrome differentiation of TCM.
