Objective To investigate roles of myelin basic protein (MBP), amyloid precursor protein (APP) and enkephalin (ENK) in obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) and effect of reduced glutathione (GSH) on cerebral impairment in different cerebral regions via establishing an animal model induced by intermittent hypoxia(IH).Methods24adult male rats were equally divided into IH group, GSH group and control group at random. Rats of IH group had been put into a capsule in which oxygen concentration varied between10%lasting30seconds and20.9%lasting210seconds repeatedly from8a.m. to4p.m. for30days. GSH were injected into rats’ abdominal cavities of GSH group besides the same measure as that of IH group, of which dose was0.5g/kg. Expressions of MBP mRNA, APP mRNA and ENK mRNA were measured in rats’ hippocampuses, hypothalamuses as well as brainstems with reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) were measured with ELLASA in rats’ those regions. Results Expressions of MBP mRNA, APP mRNA and ENK mRNA in rats’ hippocampuses, hypothalamuses and brainstems of IH group were higher than control group (P<0.05). Expressions of MBP mRNA and APP mRNA in rats’ hippocampuses, hypothalamuses and brainstems of GSH group were lower than control group (P<0.05). By contrast with IH group, MDA was less and SOD was more in rats’ hippocampuses, hypothalamuses and brainstems of both control group and GSH group. Conclusions IH can lead to impairment of neuroepithelial cells in murine brain. APP and ENK may take roles in cerebral impairment caused by IH. It is probably significant to treat cerebral impairment caused by IH with GSH.
