Erythrinae Cortex was listed in the Pharmacopoeia of People’s Republic ofChina (1977and2010version of appendix), mainly comeing from dried bark ofErythrina variegata L.var. orientalis(L.)Merr. or Erythrina arborescens Roxb. Withentering into the liver and spleen, Erythrinae Cortex is bitter and acrid in taste, neutral in nature, and has an anti-rheumatic, meridian and analgesic effect. In clinical,it is used to relieve the pain of back, knee, shoulder and arm, and also cure eczema ofskin. Due to the complexity of its sources, we mainly use several plants from fourfamilies as the Erythrinae Cortex currentl, such as Kalopanax septemLobus(Thunb.) Koidz., Zantnoxylum aianthoides Sieb. Et Zucc. and Zantnoxylum molleRehd. To solve these problems, this study conducted collection and investigation ofErythrinae Cortex, identification and inspection Erythrinae Cortex, determination thecontent of total alkaloids in Erythrinae Cortex, and systematic research onpharmacodynamics of Erythrinae Cortex. We collected dozens of Erythrinae Cortex in the domestic and Shanxi provinceand researched these products systematically. These products were identified byProfessor Yune Bai of Shanxi medical university. To provide resource distribution’scertification of Erythrinae Cortex, we also had a comprehensive investigation of theoriginal plant which was distributed in the Fujian province. Research results showthat the using of “Haitongpi” mostly are “Chuantongpi” and “Zhetongpi” in themarket circulation, and seldom using the dried bark of Erythrina variegata L.var.orientalis (L.) Merr. or Erythrina arborescens Roxb.Identification results of Erythrinae Cortex show that there are significantdifferences between the different sources of “Haitongpi” in the morphological, microscopic and TLC. These results are also consistent with the reports of literaturesand appraisal results. In this thesis, based on the2010Pharmacopoeia of People’sRepublic of China, we fully studied the quality standards and set out a series of limits of moisture(below12.0%), the content of ash(below16.0%), extractives(above16.0%), heavy metal (below twenty over one million) and arsenic salt (below five overone million). This study established a method which called acid dye colorimetry fordetermination of total alkaloids in Erythrinae Cortex. The method was convenient, sensitive and credible which could be adopted for determination of total alkaloids inErythrinae Cortex. With ephedrine hydrochloride as reference substance andbromocresol green as chromogenic agent, detection wavelength411nm, the contentof total alkaloids in Erythrinae Cortex from different batches was determined.According to the average content of total alkaloids in Erythrinae Cortex fromdifferent batches, we stipulate that the content of total alkaloids in Erythrinae Cortexshall not be less than0.25%.According to the anti-inflammatory and analgesic pharmacological exporiments’results,“Haitongpi” is better than “Chuantongpi” and “Zhetongpi” inanti-inflammation and analgesia. The results of this thesis provide a workable standard and fill the qualitystandards of Erythrinae Cortex.
