Objective:This study takes an observation on changes of serum proteins in patients with lung cancer after surgical treatment and aims to evaluate the effect of perioperative nutritional intervention with whey protein on postoperative levels of serum proteins through a prospective study in random basis. Methods and materials:48patients clinically diagnosed lung cancer from August2013to April2014in Beijing Hospital, to whom surgical treatment were performed by the single surgeon, were selected and randomly divided into A, B and C groups. Og/d,22g/d,44g/d whey protein was orally administrated to three groups, respectively, from3days preoperatively to7days postoperatively. None was administrated on surgery day. Venous blood samples were collected on1st,3rd,5th and7th day, both preoperatively and postoperatively and levels of serum albumin, total protein, prealbumin and globulin of each patient were measured. Changes were tested statistically. Results:No statistically significant difference was detected in age, sex, BMI, lung function, blood lose in operation, operation time, chest drainage or postoperative duration of hospital stays among three groups. Also, no considerable changes were claimed in levels of albumin, total protein, prealbumin and globulin before operation. However, all three groups showed descended levels of albumin, total protein, prealbumin and globulin after operation, with patients receiving nutritional intervention displaying a slower decline, suggesting rapider recovery. Group B possessed higher level of globulin B on3rd day postoperatively than group A (p<0.05)Conclusion:Levels of serum albumin, total protein, prealbumin and globulin in lung cancer patients descended after surgical operation. Perioperative nutritional intervention by whey protein can rapidly supply protein intake and can partly favored recovery of serum proteins levels.
