Objective: To investigate the causative factors including tumor size, a surfacelocation, pseudocapsule, histopathological grade of extrahepatic collateralarterial (ExCAs) blood supply to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) at its initialresentation. Methods: Between February2010and July2013, consecutive121patients withnewly pathologic diagnosed HCC were prospectively enrolled into this study. All image information were reconstructed with thin-section and analyzed. Themanifestation of CT were compared with surgery and pathological findings. Results: At initial presentation, The pathological findings showed24(19.80%)of these121patients with28ExCAs supplying tumors while CT were27(22.3%) patients with30ExCAs. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy ofExCAs on CT were96.43%,96.91%and96.80%. Multiple logistic regressionanalysis showed that tumor size and a surface location were significantlyassociated with the presence of ExCAs (P<0.05) while pseudocapsule andhistopathological grade were not(P>0.05).Conclusion: The ExCAs of HCC patients could be showed with CT reconstruction technique accurately; The radiological informations (tumor size, asurface location) were key reference factors in estimating whether ExCAs wereexisted or not.
