ObjectiveTo design a novel effective antimicrobial and antithrombotic lock solutioncharacterized by lower concentration of gentamicin/heparin and brightly color forhemodialysis central venous catheter.Methods1. We Mixed the10%NaCl solution with gentamicin, unfractionated heparin andmethylene blue and then observed the color, Clarity of solution and precipitation.2. We compared the antimicrobial activity of the novel lock solution with the standardlock solution by time-kill kinetic assay.3. Patients in the two lock solution groups were comparable for risk factorspredisposing to catheter-related bloodstream infection, catheter thrombosis and cathetersurvivals.Results1. The novel lock solution appeared in blue color and Clarity, which containing1mg/ml gentamicin,1250U/ml unfractionated heparin and10%hypersonic saline.2. Two kind of lock solutions had bactericidal effects on Staphylococcus aureus andEscherichia coli in vitro; and no significance was observed. The rate of catheter-relatedbloodstream infections, catheter thrombosis and catheter survival were no significantlydifference in two lock solution groups.ConclusionThe novel lock solution effectively prevented the morbidity of catheter-relatedbloodstream infections, catheter thrombosis instead of the standard lock solution.
