A Systematic Review Of Okra Capsule For Refractory Nephritic Syndrome

Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of okra capsule for refractory nephroticsyndrome. And to Assess whether okra capsule may help to slow down the progress ofkidney function decline in patients with refractory nephritic syndrome.Methods: We searched Pubmed database, Embase database, Medline database, theCochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, CQVIP, WanFang, CNKI, chinesejoumals and books for Randomized controlled trials or Quasirandomised trials of okracapsule for refractory nephrotic syndrome. The data was analysed with RevMan5.1.7software from the Cochrane Collaboration.Results:9articles were included finally, which contained571patients, among whichGrade one articles were8, Grade two were1. the results of Meta analysis showed:Compared to control group, okra capsule group was higher in reducing the24h Urineprotein complete remission rate [RR=1.27,95%CI(1.16,1.40), P≤0.05]. Compared tocontrol group, okra capsule group was more effective in elevating serum albumin level[WMD=2.43,95%CI(1.15,3.70), P≤0.05].Compared to control group, okra capsulegroup was more effective in decreasing blood cholesterol level [WMD=－1.96,95%CI(－3.86,－0.05), P≤0.05]. Okra capsule group was similar with control group indecreasing triglyceride level [WMD=－0.10,95%CI(－0.88,0.69), P>0.05]. Comparedto control group, okra capsule group was more effective in decreasing serumcreatinine level [WMD=－10.10,95%CI(－17.01,－3.19), P≤0.05]. Okra capsulegroup was similar with control group in decreasing urea nitrogen level [WMD=－1.61,95%CI(－4.30,－1.08), P>0.05]. Okra capsule group was similar with control group inadverse effects rate [RR=0.94,95%CI(0.97,1.21), P>0.05]. The disposition of spotswas nearly symmetric on the funnel map, which suggests that there was only a littlepublication bias in the included studies.Conclusion: The results prove that okra capsule group was higher in reducing the24hUrine protein complete remission rate than control group, and was more effective in elevating serum albumin level than control group, and was more effective in decreasingblood cholesterol level than control group, and was more effective in decreasingserum creatinine level than control group. On the other hand, okra capsule may notdecrease triglyceride levels. For the reason that there was no many articles included, theconclusion needs a bigger random controlled trial to confirm; Okra capsule group wassimilar with control group in decreasing urea nitrogen level. In terms of safety, okracapsule group was similar with control group in adverse effects rate.
