Study On Etiology Of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Objective: To analyze the cause of thoracic outlet syndrome, to provide areference for diagnosis, treatment of TOSMethods:48cases and53operations with TOS，which were selected asobjective group, were treated in the hand surgery department ofChina-Japan Union Hospital, Jilin University between January2007andMarch2014.Results: The objective group is consist of32females and16males, theratio of the male and the female is1:2. The age of onset of TOS is from14to67, the median age of TOS is37.The patients whose ages arebetween30and50years old take higher disease incidence of all the cases.Patients were mainly farmers and workers, but also includes staff,individual practitioners, soldiers, cadres and other industries. In53operations, there were7with bone abnormalities,20with abnormalfibrous bands,50with anterior scalene muscle and middle scaleneabnormalities,12with small scalene abnormalities,3with tough fibrousconnective tissue,11with pectoralis minor muscle abnormalities,7withsubclavian muscle abnormalities,1with abnormal small arterial branch,1with thrombus in subclavian vein,2with abnormal epineurium. Allpatients had two or more factors combined with TOS.Conclusion：Through analysing48cases and53operations with TOS,the results we had already gets are as follows:1.TOS occurs more in female than in male, the ratio of the male and the female is1:2.2. Peoplewhose ages are between30and50years old have higher diseaseincidence.3.TOS has relation with the job occupation of the patients, itis often seen on farmers and workers.4.TOS is caused by a variety offactors.5.There are2or more than2factors lead to TOS together and weshould choose the right treatments against the right causes.
