Abstract/Summary:
Most conjugated organic molecules have very high luminescence efficiency in dilutesolutions, but they exhibit relatively weak or no emissions when they are in aggregation orin the solid state, which is called Aggregation-induced quench (ACQ). It isdisadvantageous for these luminescent materials to be used in the solid devices.In2001, Tang et al found that the molecule of silole had an opposite property. Itshowed weak or no emission when in dilute solutions, but high luminescence efficiency inaggregation or in the solid. This intriguing phenomenon was called Aggregation-inducedemission(AIE). Molecules with AIE properties have drawn more attention, because oftheir special emission properties. These AIE molecules have been widely used in thedetection of molecules, ions and biomolecules. In this paper, we synthesized typical of AIE molecules, tetraphenylethylene (TPE)derivatives, and applied them in testing of surfactant critical micelle concentration (CMC),heavy metal ions and phytate.Tetraphenylethylene was synthesized. The CMC values of three different types ofsurfactants, Tween-80, sodium lauryl sulfate and ammonium bromide cetane weremeasured. An negatively charged tetraphenylethylene sulfonate salt was synthesized to detectmetal ions in aqueous solution. This fluorescence probe molecule showed specificrecognition for lead ions. The selective recognition effects were remained for lead ionsin herbal extract. An positively charged quaternary ammonium salt of tetraphenylethylene wassynthesized. In aqueous solution, phytate with six phosphate anions induced aggregationof the tetraphenylethylene molecule with enhanced emission. When phytase was put intothe solution, emission was reduced.
