Cerebral infarction, because of its characteristics of high incidence, highmorbidity, high recurrence rate and the high mortality, has become a seriousdisease which is significantly harmful to human health. Traditional risk factorssuch as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, alcohol addiction, obesityand dyslipidemia are associated with the occurrence of cerebral infarction. Withthe development of study on stroke risk factors in recent years, more and morestudies showed that hyperhomocysteinemia(HHcy)is a new risk factor ofischemic stroke, which is of great importance. It is a controversial issue thatreducing the plasma homocysteine level could reduce the incidence of cerebralinfarction. We chose the cerebral infarction patients of north region of China asobjects and investigate the correlation between Hyperhomocysteinemia andIschemic Stroke. Objective: The correlation between HHcy and Ischemic Stroke is stillcontroversial, we investigate the correlation between HHcy and IschemicStroke. We further focus on the correlation between HHcy and traditional RiskFactor.Method: We enrolled1023acute cerebral infarction patients admitted to thefirst hospital of Jilin University, Changchun, China in the period betweenSeptember2012and September2013. They were diagnosed as acute cerebralinfarction based on strict neurological examination and identified by brainCT/MR. We detected the Homocysteine, Folate, Vitamin B12, LDL, carotid IMT, modified TOAST type. According to the TOAST type, the patients weredivided into five grope, we compered the Hcy between each grope. Thedifference of the plasma Hcy level were compered between IMT thickeninggrope(IMT≥1mm)and IMT normal grope(IMT<1mm). We also contrast thecorrelation between plasma Hcy level and sex, age, HP, DM, smoking andalcohol habits by divided them into HHcy grope and non-HHcy grope. Thecorrelation between plasma Hcy level and Folate, Vitamin B12and diet habitswas analyzed.Result: HHcy was accounted for a large proportion as68.9%of all the cerebralinfarction patients and the mean plasma Hcy level was significant higher thanthe normal value. The plasma Hcy level of LAA grope was significant higherthan SAA grope and the other gropes. The Hcy level of IMT thickening gropewas significant higher than IMT normal grope. Hcy level was negativelycorrelated with the level of folate and vitamin B12. The stroke risk of the peoplewho intake more vegetables and fruits is lower than the people who eatvegetables rarely. Conclusion: HHcy was related to Ischemic Stroke, especially with LAA type.Hcy was positive correlated with the level of atherosclerosis. Hcy level wasnegatively correlated with the level of folate and vitamin B12. The diet habits ofeating more fruits and vegetables could people to avoid HHcy.
