Objective:To monitor the incidence and trends of stroke and lacunar infarction (LAC) from2006-2012in Changsha community;examine the risk factors of LAC;to evaluate the prognosis of LAC.Methods:A prospective registry population-based study was conducted from January2006to December2012in Changsha community with approximately100000long-term permanent residents. All first-ever stroke cases were registered. Results:A total of1780patients with stroke were identified;44.38%(790cases) were classified as ischemic stroke(IS),48.82%(869cases) as intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) and15.62%(278cases) as LAC.LAC accounted for35.19%of IS.Age-standardized average incidence rates of LAC was28.3/100000during study period. The incidence of IS (p=3.2,P=0.002) and LAC (β=3.8,P=0.023) increased per year. There were no significant differences in incidence of LAC between men and women (30.7/100000vs.26.8/100000).The incidence of non-LAC was significantly higher in men than in women (53.1/100000vs.37.4/100000).The28-day case fatality proportions were significantly lower in patients with LAC (0.3%) versus non-LAC (14.1%).One year after acute stroke onset, the survival rates between LAC and non-LAC were similar. Conclusions:LAC is a common stroke subtypes in Changsha.Men are more likely to have non-LAC.The prevalence rate of hypertension in LAC patients was higher than that of LAC patients, and there are differences in risk factors between them.Long-term prognosis of LAC is poor.7charts,5tables,41references...
