Objective:To investigate the expressions of estrogen receptor(ER-α) and progesteronereceptor (PR) in prostate cancers and their clinical significance. to investigate the ER andPR positive expression in prostate cancer by the method of qualitative analysis, providinga clinical evidence for diagnosis and prognosis of prostate cancer.Methods:2004February to2012February male patients underwent radicalprostatectomy or transurethral resection of the prostate, pathological diagnosed withprostate cancer tissue specimens from120patients from Shenyang military generalhospital and Tong liao Hospital of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Age56~87year old, average66.8years old. Among the12cases of patients with low-risk (Gleasonscore≤6; PSA<10; ng/ml; clinical stage≤T2a). The38cases of patients with middle risk(Gleason score7; PSA10~20ng/ml; clinical stageT2b). The70cases of patients withhigh-risk (Gleason score≥8; PSA>20ng/ml; clinical stage≥T2c).The expressions of ER-αand PR were detected in120cases of prostate cancers and40cases of normal prostate byimmunohistochemistry S-P method. Combination of prostate cancer patients afteroperation the clinical follow-up data, using mathematical statistical method χ2test. Theresults from the above data. Results:The positive rates of expressions of ER-α and PR were53.4and38.4%,respectively. And the positive rates were4.5%and9.5%in normal prostate groups. Thedisparity has statistical significance; NO significant association of expression of PR wasnoted with age, histological types, tumor size, lymphatic metastasis and clinical stages; The expression of ER-α was related to clinical stages and lymphatic metastasis (P<0.05),but not to ages, tumor size and histological types (P>0.05).Conclusions:The expression of ER-α, PR in prostate cancer tissues was significantlyhigher than that in normal prostate tissues. Negatively correlated with malignant degreeof ER-α, PR and prostate cancer. That is to say the higher positive rate, malignant degree is lower, the better the differentiation. However, in the metastasis and hormone refractoryprostate cancer, ER and PR expression was strongly positive. The results suggest thatestrogen plays an important role in the pathogenesis of this type of prostate cancer. ER-αand PR are related with the occurrence and development of prostate cancer. Thecombined detection with PSA and androgen levels can help to predict the clinical andpathologic characteristics of prostate cancer which is an important index to guidetreatment. ER-α and PR are predictive factors for prostate cancers.
