Object:To study the characteristics and the role of diffusion tensor imaging(DTI)inthe clinical application of cervical spondylosis myelopathy.Materials and Methods:50cases were examined with routine MRI and DTl on1.5T Signa HD X Echospeed (GE),in which of30patients with cervical spondyloticmyelopathy diagnosed by clinical and radiological findings, the other20patients withoutclinical myelopathy. The features of DTI were analyzed and the apparent diffusioncoefficient (ADC) and fractional anisotropy(FA) values were measured on a cross sectionof the spinal cord by using color maps generated from DTI data.Results:①50cases completed the examinations without artifacts and distorts on thediffusion tensor imagings through post-processing.②There were stastically significantdifference between gray matter and white matter in the values of FA and ADC.③The meanFA and ADC belonged the white matter of normal spinal cordcomparedwiththewhitematterofthecervicalspondylosismyelopathywerestatisticallsignificantdifference:FA(t=3.510,p<0.001),ADC(t=2.702,p=0.007),which were higher than thecervical spondylosis myelopathy.④There were no statistically significant differencebetween the normal cases and the cervical spondylosis myelopathy in FA and ADC valuesof the black matter.⑤Sensitivities of T2-weighted images and DTI were17%and97%.⑥DTT fiber bundles in normal volunteers cervical spinal cord revealed a fiber bundleto nature, fiber bundles and full, showing significant anisotropy, cervical spinal cord injurypatients DTT fiber bundles can be expressed as to distort, fiber sparse even interrupt.Conclutions:We can acquire the satisfied DTI images with the reduced-field viewEPI technology without artisfacts and distorts, which is a reliable tool in demonstratingthe early spondylosis-related changes of the cervical spinal cord compared with the routine T2WI images.Diffusion Tensor Tracking can display changes of anatomical structure ofcervical spinal cord and fibers,it is helpful in diagnosis of the lesion in spinal cord.
